CHAIRMAN OF MAZHILIS URAL MUKHAMEDZHANOV

HAD SEVERAL MEETINGS IN JAPAN

Tokyo, November 26: Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Ural Mukhamedzhanov visited Japan on November 21-26, 2010. During his visit of Hiroshima city he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Hiroshima University. The ceremony was held at the Hiroshima University. Before the ceremony Ural Mukhamedzhanov held a meeting with chairman of the council of Hiroshima Prefecture Masao Hayashi, visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. After the ceremony he held a speech at the International Conference Center of Hiroshima.

Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis, who was heading a delegation of Kazakhstan to Japan, also met in Tokyo with Takahiro Yokomichi - Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament, President of the House of Councilors Takeo Nishioka as well as with Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akihiro Ohata, Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan Katsuya Okada.

At the meetings in Tokyo it was noted that the official visit of the Kazakh President to Japan in June 2008 demonstrated the countries' huge potential for bilateral interaction.

The Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis confirmed Kazakhstan's aspiration for close cooperation on the international arena and joint implementation of the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation initiatives, rehabilitation of Afghanistan. The Kazakh side expressed appreciation for assistance in rehabilitation of the Semipalatinsk region and support of the Kazakh President's initiative to announce August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests and adoption of a corresponding Resolution of the UN General Assembly.
